BM Bureau, May 2 :In a good news to commuters and traders from Belagavi and Goa, the asphalting of the damaged section of the Belagavi-Goa road via Chorla ghat has commenced from Monday. The hotmixing of the road is likely to be completed within a fortnight, giving much relief to Goans visiting Belagavi and vice versa.
Government of Goa has issued strict orders for maintaining the quality of the road work.
Movement of heavy vehicles has been totally banned from May 4 to May 11, a government order says warning those defying the order would be dealt with strictly.
Sections of this road in Goa section had become dilapidated causing inconvenience to motorists while major and minor accidents were reported at regular intervals. However, with the reconstructed road travelling on this route is going to be pleasant.
It may be recalled that Goa CM Dr Pramod Sawant had initiated an inquiry about the substandard work that was carried out by a Pune based contractor after which two engineers were suspended.
