BM Bureau, August 13 : Belgaum District is getting a major tourism boost as Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation ( KSTDC) is taking special initiatives. Senior Bureaucrat and Director of the corporation Dr Rajendra KV has stated that special measures would be initiated to promote the state tourism among Goans including the steps to attract Goans visiting Belagavi in large numbers. He was speaking to The Goan after an interactive session with travel, tourism and hospitality stakeholders at Sankam Hotel, Belagavi on Tuesday.
He also stated that KSTDC will be also looking forward to attract foreign tourists visiting Goa to visit Belagavi and other places in North Karnataka region by initiating appropriate measures including establishing a rapport with tourism authorities in Goa.
“ While the World goes to Goa and Goans visit Belagavi. We have initiated a draft tourism policy 2024- 29 to initiate measures in promoting the tourism in the state. It is certainly a reason of concern for us that Goans visiting Belagavi in large number are no visiting places of tourism in and around Belagavi. With the cooperation of those in the hospitality and related industry we would like to coax the Goan tourists to explore the places of tourist interest in and around Belagavi region,” Dr Rajendra said.
Answering a concern about the impolite attitude of the local police towards Goans and people of other states visiting Belagavi he said that measures would be taken up with the district police authorities to see that Goans and people of neighbouring state are made comfortable during their visit to Belagavi except for some grave matters. He also urged that the auto and taxi drivers including tour operators to follow ethical practices. “ Ethical practices are must while serving tourists,” Dr Rajendra said.
