BM Bureau, Nov 5 : Team of doctors from Arihant Hospital here have performed a exceptional surgery saving life of a 75 year old woman from Maharashtra. Headed by noted cardio vascular thoracic surgeon Dr M D Dixit, the doctors have successfully healed the woman by performing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) surgery which is the first in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa region and only the 2nd in India.
The woman from Sangola city in Maharashtra was admitted to the hospital on November 1 with shortness of breath due to severe aortic stenosis, which is caused due to the narrowing of the valve in the large blood vessel branching of off from heart.
As the lady was cachexic (a state of weight and muscle loss) surgery carried high risk. However, the team carried the TAVI, a non-surgical procedure to heal the woman. Dr Dixit together with Dr Anmol Sonawe, Dr Prabhu Halkati, Dr Prashant M B, Dr Ambrish Nerlikar successfully performed the procedure successfully.
In normal course this procedure is performed through femoral artery (groin vessels) but as her groin vessels were very small an alternative route through Carotid Artery (Neck Vessels) was used. Patient withstood the procedure well & has been discharged to lead a normal life.
“ This type of procedures are a boon for the society & patients who are on a higher risk. We are proud & happy to provide this life saving procedure at Belagavi through which we would be able to offer this life saving procedure to patients from Karnataka, Maharashtra & Goa,” delighted after the successful surgery Dr Dixit acclaimed.
Chairman of Arihant hospital Raosaheb Patil & Director Abhinandan Patil who have provided world class infrastructure in the hospital congratulated the team for its efforts.
