Team Belgaum Mirror, 03-08-2022: A terrible road accident took place in the camp area of Belgaum. A lorry ran over a boy and the boy died on the spot, angry people pelted stones on the lorry in front of the police. They smashed the glass of the lorry. One boy died and two others were seriously injured in this incident.
While accident took place around 8:45 am in the morning, there was tense atmosphere has been created in the Belgaum camp area. The accident took place near Welcome Hotel in Belgaum camp area. While crossing the road, a lorry loaded with iron bars ran over the boy and the boy died on the spot. A brother and sister along with another pedestrian boy who were crossing the road were hit by a lorry. 10-year old Arhan Bepari died on the spot when the lorry ran over the boy while crossing the road. The deceased boy’s elder sister Atika and the pedestrian Ayush were seriously injured. The injured have been admitted to the district hospital.
Hundreds of people were gathered in the place, creating a tense atmosphere in the place. DCP Sneha visited the spot and inspected. Attempts have been made to convince the family members of the deceased. A case has been registered at Belgaum South Traffic Police Station.
MLA Anil Benake visited the incident site. They have persuaded the family members and locals who were protesting on the road. He assured that the police will be deployed at the school and action will be taken against the guilty lorry driver. Locals have withdrawn the sit-in following MLA Benake’s promise.
Drunk lorry driving is said to be the cause of this accident. Now, the plying of lorries in this area will be banned in the morning and evening. Road widening is not permitted in the camp area. Despite talking to the defense department many times, permission was not given. The reason for the accident today is that the road is narrow. MLA Anil Benake said that we will completely ban lorry driving in the camp area.
