BM Bureau, May 17 : Finally, the long for commuters from Belagavi and Goa is over as the most awaited reconstuction/repair of the ghat secion on the Belagavi-Goa road via Chorla will be completed by Wednesday (May 18). With this the heavy traffic on this road is likely to resume in full swing, giving much awaited relief to commuters especially to the heavy vehicles.
It may be recalled that the hotmixing work on the entire Chorla ghat section had commenced from May 3 and later Goan authorities had banned the movement of heavy vehicles from May 4 to May 11 i.e. 27 kms from Dattawadi- Sakhali till Karnataka border. Heavy vehicle owners were facing huge inconiviences as traffic was diverted via Anmod ghat that was also closed for heavy traffic.
Government of Goa had issued strict orders for maintaining the quality of the road work.
Meanwhile, concerns are being raised about the deteriorating stretches of the road between Chorla and Kankumbi. ” Many stretches are damaged and are likely to deteriorate further during the monsoon,” a regular travellers told Belgaum Mirror.
