Belgaum Mirror, Oct 18 : The winter session of the Karnataka State Legislature is likely to be held from December 9 to 20 at Suvarna Vidhan Soudha, Belagavi, according to Speaker of Legislative Assembly, U T Khader and Chairman of Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti.

Addressing media persons at the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha on Friday, ahead of the winter session, Khader said the session should start this year from December 9 to 20 , however an official announcement will come from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah after he endorses the decision in the state cabinet shortly.

Khader & Horatti held meeting of officials who gave vital inputs. “Measures are being initiated to ensure good attendance of legislators and ample time set aside for a serious discussion on various issues pertaining to the North Karnataka region. The government would hold special events exclusively for students visiting the Suvarna Vidhan Soudha during the session to create awareness about various topics,” Khade ascertained.

Basvaraj Horatti said the government would take a call on the celebration of the completion of 100 years to the Congress Plenary held in 1924 and presided over by Mahatma Gandhiji. Khader said a photo exhibition with regard to the centenary celebrations of the Congress Plenary and completion of 200 years of the war which Rani Chennamma had waged against the British would be held during the winter session at Suvarna Vidhan Soudha. He also assured of initiating measures to reduce the cost of the winter session.

To help various organisations and people stage protests, if any, near the soudha, Khader said the authorities would make elaborate arrangements. “Staging protests and allowing the people to stage protests is the beauty of democracy. We can’t halt anybody from staging agitations during the session but appropriate arrangements would be made, ” he ascertained.
