BM Bureau: The collapse of the Shivaji Maharaj Statue in Malvan on Sunday has sparked anger among people of Belagavi region. Shiv bhakts have condemned the incident and have sought an explanation for the unpardonable negligence observed by the authorities in Maharashtra while erecting the statue that Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated in the presence of Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde. While various organisations in Belagavi have submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister in this regard through district administration Youth Congress leader Mrunal Hebbalkar has condemned the incident demanding an apology from the Prime Minister and Maharashtra CM Shinde.
He has also asked the ruling Shivsena-led coalition in Maharashtra to visit Rajhansgad near Belagavi and see the rock-solid statue erected atop Rajhansgad, which he said will stand strongly for generations to come. “ Amid opposition from the then BJP Government in Karnataka, Belagavi Rural MLA, and Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar has erected the statue of Shivaji Maharaj at the highest point near Belagavi. Government of Maharashtra should come and see the construction of the same while reerecting the statue at Malvan” Hebbalkar urged.
